How It Is Made – The Cut

Share
At Make My Shoes, craftsmanship begins with precision. The first step in creating your unique pair is The Cut – where leather, suede or canvas is transformed from raw material into shoe components, entirely by hand.
Step 1: Selecting the Material
We begin with the best material – whether it's full-grain Italian leather, eco suede, or breathable canvas. Each hide or roll is carefully inspected by our artisans for grain, consistency, and integrity.
Why It Matters:
Only top-quality sections are used to ensure your shoes not only look beautiful but last for years.
Step 2: Marking the Panels
Using our unique design, we create special pattern/cutout to cut the components for the model, these are applied to the material, and expert craftsmen hand-trace each panel to maximize usability while maintaining symmetry.
Tools of the Trade:
- Precision knives and cutting boards
- Special inks for marking.
- Artisan hands – no automation
Step 3: Hand-Cutting the Components
Every panel is cut by hand. This ensures that:
- Grain direction is aligned for aesthetic consistency
- Stretch points are accounted for
- Zero wastage of premium material
This is where your custom shoe truly begins to take shape.
Step 4: Preparing for Assembly
The cut pieces are sorted, labelled, and passed on for stitching and lasting. At this point, lining materials are added, and your shoe is ready to begin its next stage.
Artisan Quote:
“You can’t rush this part. The cut is where the story of the shoe starts. If we get this wrong, everything after would suffer.”
